Earlobes can also be stretched using weights in some cases, although this is not ideal for obtaining healthy lobes. The only other way to achieve a large-gauge piercing is by dermal punching or scalpelling, which is the process of turning two earlobe piercings into one larger hole by cutting between them, either in a straight line, or by removing a portion of tissue. Alternatively, making a smallscalpelcut outward from an existing earlobe piercing is one method used to enlarge a piercing very quickly, without the time needed for stretching. Or in the case of scalpelled labrets, it is an initial large gauge labret cutting.
